Goodbye Facebook: Mark Zuckerberg unveils new logo and name for his company

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the change of his company’s name to Meta, to distance himself from the social media business implicated in many scandals, leaks, and breaches.

The new name is an attempt to focus on Metaverse, the future of social networking, Zuckerberg believes.

Zuckerberg appeared in a 75-minute online video and asked users to change their view of the company, which he said is now not just the most popular and controversial social media platform.

According to the video, the name of the platform used by billions of people will remain as Facebook, but the name of the company that will run this platform is dead, as Zuckerberg said that the company plans to focus on the next generation of computing, which is a virtual world in which people roam freely like an avatar movie, attending Virtual business meetings, shopping in virtual stores, and socializing in virtual get-togethers.

Zuckerberg added that the Facebook social networking platform is one of the most used platforms by humans in the world to communicate with each other. But this platform does not represent everything the company does and does, and the company’s name can’t remain associated with only one product in the presence of many other products that the company is developing or seeking to develop.

The blue app we use on our phones will still be known as Facebook. But the Facebook name will be removed from any other product, such as Instagram and WhatsApp.

This means that all the apps will be under the Meta brand instead of Facebook, and the Facebook app will be just one of those many different apps.

Finally, Zuckerberg indicated that he will not step down as CEO of the company.

Many analysts criticized the move, saying that it was most likely an attempt to avoid the intense scrutiny and criticism that faced the company in the past months and years, as there were many reports of violations of users’ privacy and ignoring hate speech and other violations.

Many journalists viewed this change with suspicion, with some even asking other journalists to ignore the new name and continue referring to the company like Facebook.

It is reported that this is the second change of the company’s name. In 2005, the name of the company changed from “The Facebook” to “Facebook”.
