# What is ampere

The ampere is the basic unit of current measurement approved by the International Organization for Measurement World Meteorological Organization SIQ. To explain the nature of the current.

## Electric current

The current is mainly related to the movement of charges, whether they are negative (electrons) or positive (ions), so the current is defined as the movement of electric charges during a certain period, and the movement of charges is irregular and very slow.

Water moves from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure, and this is similar to the movement of electric charges, as it moves from positive, i.e. higher energy, to negative energy, i.e. lower energy, if the changes are positive, but if they are negative, they are in the opposite direction.

The current Electric moves in metals that conduct electric currents, such as copper, aluminum, lead, and gold, so these materials are used in various electrical circuits. ## Types of electric current

• Constant current: From its name, we can define the constant current, which is symbolized in electrical science by the symbol DC, with the flow of charges steadily from high voltage to low voltage, and then the shape of the current can be observed using the digital millimeter in the form of a straight line, and this type of current is generated in batteries and other different voltage sources.
• Alternating current: Also known as alternating current, and here the current is reflected between positive and negative in the form of a sine wave or square wave according to the digital millimeter, and this current is generated in large generators.

## Electric current equation & calculator

Current can be calculated by more than one law such as Ohm’s Law where:
Voltage = current x resistance.
The current can be found through the law:
Current = charge ÷ time.

From the above, the ampere is defined according to the law (current = charge ÷ time), as the passage of a charge of one coulomb in one second, hence the ampere is equivalent to coulombs/second, and according to Ohm’s law, the ampere is equivalent to volts/ohm, and the name is attributed to the French scientist Andre Ampère, who studied electric current.

It is possible to know the current on which a particular device operates by knowing the device’s capacity, which is the value written on the device, and since the voltage is known in most countries, the current can be known from the equation: current = capacity/voltage.

The amp has many applications in our lives. In the age of technology, a house is not without many electrical devices that need an electrical voltage that generates a current to operate these devices, such as refrigerators, washing machines, television, and other devices in our homes.
